 Welcome to the Mt. Zion Fire Protection District's Website 

 Mt. Zion Fire is currently seeking applicants for volunteer firefighter positions. Interested applicants click here or come into the Firehouse to fill out an application.

Fire District Information

The Mt. Zion Fire Protection District operates as a professional organization, which is proud to serve the community. Established in 1946, as a Volunteer Fire Department, with 30 active Volunteer Firefighters and two full time and three part time employees. The District encompasses 42 sq. miles, serving the Village of Mt. Zion and Mt. Zion Township (pop.6,000) The Fire District provides Fire Suppression, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services (basic life support level) while operating 9 pieces of Fire Apparatus from 1 Fire Station and responds to over 450 Emergency and Non-Emergency calls for service annually.

Third alarm fire in Cerro Gordo

Mt. Zion assists with oil tank fire in Harristown

Mt. Zion was requested by Harristown Fire to assist with an oil tank fire on McKinley Rd just outside of Decatur. We responded with our crash rescue truck (Rescue 2) and upon arrival extinguished the fire. Once the fire was out Harristown cooled the tank until there was no longer a hazard. The ...

Fire Safety Tips

Use Eletricity Safely

If an appliance smokes or has an unusual smell, unplug it immediately and have it repaired. Replace frayed or cracked electrical cords and don't overload extension cords. They should not be run under rugs. Never tamper with the fuse box or use the improper size fuse.
